ravenno depending on the type of watercolor paper you use, you can also soak the paper overnight and then it wont wrinkle/bubble up later after it's dry and you paint on it. :)
Let me publish it because I never had heard of that. Sounds amazing!
Thank you!
Anonymous I hope this isn't a silly question, but I've just started doing watercolours again and was hoping you could give me some tips? In particular how do you keep the paper flat? Is there a method to stop the paper from curling so much? Your paintings always look so lovely, especially how you paint the spn night scenes with the stars!
Of course it isn’t stupid question and it’s great you picked up watercolors again. I did it too a while ago (after 10 years of break :D).
I’m not an expert but there are few simple tricks to avoid that annoying paper curling.
Tape your paper down.
Find yourself piece of hard board or glass or anything. If you don’t have one and you are sure you can finish your painting fast enough, use your desk. Tape your watercolor paper to that flat surface. Put that tape around all borders (not only at the corners).
Sure you will lose about 1 cm of paper on each side but it’s worth it. Make sure to peel of your tape carefully!
Buy fancy watercolor block.
There are fancy watercolor blocks out there that have each of their cards already glued to each other along the border. It’s pretty handy and easy to unglue them later.
Buy paper with fitting paper weight.
That actually should be my first advice. If you tend to use lot of water buy paper with higher paper weight. Like 300 g/m2. I use that one for my postcards and since I don’t use that much water I don’t even have to tape them down. With paper so thick they doesn’t curl at all :)

I’ve made giveaway post on quietersodeofbullerbyn but I forgot to share part of good news here.
To celebrate I’ve made 20% discount promotion at my storenvy. That means you can get charms for 4,8$ instead of 6$ ;)
I hope they will sell well ^^” that way I’ll be able to create new designs after this promotion ends :)

Hiya. Thanks for such a nice words. And hell yeah for tempting to watch Supernatural! :>
Also, I’m terribly sorry that it took me so long to get to your ask >.<
So answering easy questions first. Yeah, I used texture on Brave picture. Same one I use for all quetersideofbullerbyn drawings. I guess that’s generally only texture I use (except for textured brushes I hardly ever use). It’s one of charcoal textures from dierat texture pack.
And now harder question about brushes.
First I don’t use Photoshop for painting. I use CS2 only for uh… “post production” edits. I paint using Paint Tool SAI which is marvelous. Seriously, try it out if you already hadn’t.
And before I go to exact brush settings please let me go to obvious boring part about why it’s nonsense and won’t work for you to share my brush settings.
It won’t work because they are MY brush settings. I’m not you so I move my wrist in different way. I use different pressures. I have over 9000 different quirks and habits that are probably unhealthy and that I’m not aware of.
My advice is that you spend your time actually thinking about your quirks and habits. Just study for a bit not what you draw but how you draw. How you move your wrist. If you lay it down or move your whole arm while drawing. How much pressure and how you use it.
You don’t have to do all that but it’s actually interesting. And helps to fix your brush settings for yourself. You;ll still have to play with them but believe me. It’s worth it.
That’s all. Now about brush settings I use.
First I use specific uh… tip for a wacom pen. That one with little spring in it. I don’t know if it’s available for other series than intuos and cintiq ones but for me it was like dunno. Revelation. I could finally draw the way i do with traditional media.
(In traditional media i tend to use felt tip brush markers for linearts. They are like brushes but with little more spring to them)
Uh.. it’s getting long. Anyway, this is my beloved brush:

I use it for linearts but also I did whole Brave background with it. I love it to bits because it’s perfect for me.

Waterbrush is used for smooth coloring. I use it to add skin tones on chibis at quetersideofbullerbyn.
And that’s pretty much all I use most of the time. I fill flats with default pen brush and that’s literally it.
For realistic portraits I use three more brushes.

For more scratchy pictures (along with my favourite brush I sampled first). I made with them (and occasional use of airbrush) this Sammy and Benny andCastiel.
Lately I used new brush for the lulz. For more smooth painting.

It’s quite nice. I have this w.i.p. Abaddon done only with it.
And I guess that’s all. Hope it will be of any use for you dear Anon. If you have any further questions feel free to ask. I’ll do my best to answer :)

There happened to be occasion to get printed 5 experimental charms (I have no idea how blood will come out) because lovely Megan-Uosiu and Usada are ordering some.
I decided to give Abaddon a chance. Mostly because I want one for myself even if I have no idea where I will attach it :D
She will be available in my storenvy (there are many charms already available there!) in about a month.
Doodles from last weekend. reference photos were on phone so whole thing ended crooked because it’s hard to draw while being curled into a ball. I guess it could be called hand deficiency curse.
Lately I did whole series of Cas in cute dress drawings for my askblog quietersideofbullerbyn but I guess it would be nice to have it all compiled in one post for those of you that don’t follow it (are there actually people that only follow my mainblog?)
There is free shipping promotion in my society6 store. Lately I’ve updated it with lot of new drawings so maybe you’ll find something for yourself :)
Promotion expires June 16, 2013 at Midnight Pacific Time. *Offer excludes Framed Art Prints, Stretched Canvases and Throw Pillows with insert.

Ok. I’m awful person that forgets things. It’s a commission I did for awesome secretsecretsecrettunnel :) I wanted her to see it first then I forgot to post it here altogether =.= I’m terribly sorry for that.

I’m almost done with livestream pictures. Only one left (finally it won’t be Dean in dress, it’s time for Cas to suffer :)
fun fact: That crocodile is named Michael and Adam is already inside ;P

In tonight episode of “I should be doing something productive with my life” I made three little bees and flower stamps out of erasers :B There is no hope for me but at least, from now on, all orders in my storenvy will be extra beetastic :B
Anonymous I always admire your painting skill no matter traditional or digital. May I ask about your Photoshop brush settings? Or will you do a tutorial? Like the background you did in the Brave painting. Did you use any texture? Love every thing you draw! You make me want to watch Supernatural : ) Sorry for so many questions. Cheers x
